How do i curl my hair properly?

I got a new ghd straightener a couple days ago. I have watched the dvd that came with it. I have tried to curl my hair the same way that girl was doing it, but it just won't work out right. Most of the hair is straight and theres a tiny curl at the tip. How do I get perfect curls then?How do i curl my hair properly?

First of all call a person that knows how to do it because you could ruin your hair. Or go to a salon and ask the person there!!!
