I just bought a hair straightener and was wondering how I could curl or wave my hair with it. I've seen many different ways on how to do so but does anyone know what's the best/simplest way?

what i do is kinda like what she does in this video^^^ but instead of just twisting it once then going straight down i keep twisting the flat iron till i get to the tips of my hair:) hopes this helps
you like clamp the straightners on a peice of hair like you are about to straighten it, then you twist the straightners away or towards you, until you have ran out of hair, its quiet hard to explain so just experiment with them until you acheive the look you want! , hope it helped lol x

It's not good for the synthetic hair to be heated up. They'll melt together and look all gross and ratty. Maybe what your should try to do is braid it before you go to bed, put water on it, and brush it out in the morning with a very fine brush. It won't give you curls, but it will give it a sort of wave. It's a cute look and won't damage the extensions.
Synthetic hair won't respond the way real hair does to a curling iron or straightener. You shouldn't use heat on synthetic hair. It might melt it or alter it noticeably.



Actually, clip-in extensions made from real hair aren't terribly expensive. If you have a local beauty supply store like Sally's, you can probably find some real hair extensions that would be curlable.



Otherwise, I would say your best bet would be to wash the extensions and allow them to dry in the position you want them in--perhaps wrapped around a large curler. The bond that is formed when you allow hair to dry in a curl is stronger than the one you get using heat.

yes, you can. take a small section of hair, and with your straightening iron, starting at the root, twist the flat iron around while pulling it down, and it'll create a loose curl/ringlet.
Remember how you make ribbon curly w/ scissors? Use that same effect to get curly hair with a flat iron. The smaller the portion and the tighter you hold it the more curly it will be and vice versa! I do this a lot b/c i hate curling irons, I only have a marcel..and that's a pain in the ****.

Since your hair is straight to begin with, using the straightener and wrapping it around the barrel won't really do a thing to it. You're going to need a curling iron, any one will do, and hairspray to help hold the curl a little longer.
You could try wrapping the straightener around a lock of hair, holding it, then letting it out. If that doesn't work, you'll have to buy a curler
Maybe using your straightener like a curling iron would work.

take a small section of your hair and start by placing the straightener at the root of your hair as if you were going to straighten it. then twist the straightener goin down to the bottom of the hair strand. don't clamp the straightener down to much because it will make it hard for it to glide and it will leave creases on your hair. it will take some practice, but i do it all the time. i actually like it better than curling irons because i feel like there's more control involved. you will also need some GOOD hairspray seeing as how your hair is naturally straight im guessing with pretty much NO wave. also try a heat protection spray :) goood luck!



oh, and it helps to section your hair off.. start with the underneath layer and gradually make your way to the top :)

umm...i really don't think you can. you should go out and buy a curling iron.

or do what i do to make ar have pretty waves:

at night bout an hour or two before you go to bed wet your hair with water. and begin braiding your hair into strands about the size of your pinky finger. once you finish braiding each strand tie it off with an elastic band.

when you finish braiding all of your hair cover each braid with your favorite brand of gel or mousse. (i'd use volumizing mousse.)

then leave the brad in over night and take them out in the morning. use a pick instead of a brush to unify the waves. once you reach your desired look spray your hair with hair spray.(i'd use the 24 hour hold hair spray so the waves don't go flat.)

well when you are taking the straightener down your hair, you can turn it sideways and you can make the ends flipped out [or in]
You could straighten one section and then wrap it in rollers. That always works well with my straighteners. Also, as you're straightening, make sure to go in a path that's not STRAIGHT down, but rather in curves, so this is like, a pre-treatment.
Straighten your hair, then go back and start either half way or at the top and wrap your hair around the straightener. Kind of like a swirly pattern, then pull the straightener straight down and you'll have spirals.
Hair straightener is meant to weigh down your hair, making it heavy, and taking out the curl.



If you use hair straightener to make curls, your curls will be oily looking, if you get any curls at all.
when you are straightening and you get to the bottom wrap your hair around the Chi like a curling iron. I do the same thing. I hope you understand :) Its real easy but Its better to see it on a video I know :) GOOD LUCK!

It depends on how big your straightener is. If it's a skinny straightener most people would just use it the same way as a curling iron it usually just depends on what kind of straightener you own which is a CHI so i would just recommend buying a skinny straightener.

To fix your uneven amount of curls problem time how long you spend on each section of your hair. Make sure you are doing it the same too like not changing technique when you change hair section.





To keep your curls staying intact for longer use hair spray on your hair before you start curling and spray it with hair spray after you have finished curling.

add mousse, thers this stuff called curling mousse and it keeps your curls.

then set your straightners to the highest setting, and take a piece of hair. Put your straightners at the top of that strand of hair, and turn the straightners upwards so the side of the straightner that was facing outside, is now facing your head.

Pull the straightners down in this position.

Then repeat but start from the back of your head!

and spray with LOTS of hairspray,dont brush afterwards.

If theyre too tight then put the straighters to a lower heat setting and run down the curls like you were straightening your hair.

TAKE A STRAND OF HAIR THAT YOU WANT TO CURL FROM THE ROOT, PUT IT IN THE STRAIGHTNERS AND THEN WORK YOUR WAY DOWN THE HAIR TILTING THE STRAIGTNERS IN TOWARDS YOUR EAR ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BOTTOM. I have a 1'; Chi straightener, and it took me a lot of attempts to figure out how to curl my hair with it but now that I figured it out I can't stop! Take sections like you would when curling your hair with a curling iron. With one hand pull the piece out and put the straightener near the roots as if you were going to straighten right down the strand. Instead, clamp down and turn the clamp so it's lined up straight towards the ceiling....almost like flicking your wrist outwards, that's the motion. Then, while keeping it turned up and clamped, slowly slide down the strand of hair. The slower you slide the tighter the curl. And If you keep slowly rotating your straightener in the same direction your hair can flip more.



I also kept playing around, and figured out you can get curls to curl a certain way. Picture the pieces of hair that frame your face -- if you want curls going away from your face or towards, it just depends on which way you rotate the straightener to flip it.



You can curl the whole strand, you can start from the middle if you have longer hair that gives you the care-free curl look, or you can just use this method to curl the ends.



And you can also do this if your hair is in a neat ponytail, just do the same thing with the straightener and clamping it with the pieces from your ponytail. Have fun! i suggest hot rollers, just because since they stay in longer, it'll help. If you have layers, it'll also be much easier to curl.



Apply some hair mousse to the hair, scrunching it in.

Section off the the hair into three sections (Top, middle, bottom.)

Next apply the hair curlers (Around your faces the curls should curl away from your face)

Lets them become completely cold, and before you take them out, hairspray, hairspray, hairspray!

Take them out, curlers from the bottom first, working your way to the top. And again, hairspray! Then style.

^^^^I watched one of the videos grace posted before. i actually tried it today because i saw it last night. it works!
Thoroughly brush your hair and section it with hair bands or clips.

Spray heat protector over your hair. This is recommended.

Start from the bottom layer of hair on one side. Take a small section of hair.

Method 1

Using a thin iron, clamp it at the bottom of your hair and slowly curl it upwards.

Hold it for about 5 or so seconds, and gently remove the straightener.

Method 2

Instead, take the section and lightly mist it with a flexible hairspray.

Place the flat iron about an inch away from your scalp. Twist the iron completely around and then pull it down toward the ends of your hair, while still twisting. It is important that as the iron keep moving down your hair you keep turning it around. This will create the same kind of effect you get when you use a scissor to curl the ends of a ribbon. Running it over your hair slowly will create a tighter curl; going quickly will create a looser curl or make it wavy.

Do this to the bottom layer of your hair right around to the other side, then move up and go around until all of your hair is curled.

Spray your hair to hold your style (optional).





Tips

This style can only work if you use a thin iron that is about 1 inch wide and not too thick. If you use a wider one, this style may not work.

Make sure your hair is completely tangle free and smooth before you begin.

Make your parting in the middle or at the side before you start to avoid frizz

Your hair should be straight before you start for best results.

Perfect your technique the night before as straightening after you have attempted to curl your hair takes double the time as normal straightening/curling does.

My Solution is to take your hair wash it with shampoo and conditioner then dry your hair.Next take your Straightener and twist it,in your hair doesn't turn out then take the curling iron an do a perfect curl then take your straightener and put your hair in too it then twist it too the right for about 5 seconds and it should turn out !!! well to curl your hair with a flat iron, you take a small section of hair, clamp the flat iron down on it and basically flip it 180 degrees. You then pull down gently, and upon releasing the hair there should be a spiral curl. Here's a good video showing you how:

Erm... Your curlers aren't hot enough. You cannot curl hair with straighteners. The reason you're getting wave when you use straighteners is because you're not using them properly.



Buy new curlers, they need to be hotter.
It depends on the kind of straightening iron you have. If it seems to be a round kind which can create curls, then you can try that. All you have to do is pin the bottom section of your hair in between the straightening iron, then twist it around as if using a curling iron! That's all! You can also search on youtube for some video tutorials! :)

I have the same problem with very straight hair. What I do: the night before I want my hair curly, I make my hair wet, take small pieces, soak it with hair spray, then put a spunge roller(curler) in. I sleep with it in my hair, the next day i walk with it the whole day, take it out and they are curled (it lasts for about 5 hours)

First of all you have to have a straightener which is heated on the outside to. You have to wrap it around like you would around a curler and hold it for a second or two. If you do have the right kind of straightener it works great and saves money :). Good luck and I hope you have the right type.
its really easy to do curls.. though you have do it fast of course because you're hair wil spel so burnt if you try doing it more than once.. but i can't explain definetly look for youtube videos..
When your doing it, kinda twist the straightener as your going down. it works sometimes.
I do this and I refer to it as the ribbon effect. Go to youtube and type in curling hair with a straightener. It is a little hard to explain and very easy after you watch. I think it works better than a regular curling iron and the curls last all day. :) good luck

start off with a thin piece of hair. place your straightener at the root and clam it down. then turn your Straightener whichever was you want the curl. keep the straightener loose on your hair so it slides. keep turning until you've got all of the strand around the straightener and every part of it went through the hot plates. then just let it go and it should work(:

To get the best curl, perform these steps the day after you have washed your hair. Curling your hair it on the day of the hair wash can create frizz and waiting too long after a hair wash makes your hair oily and flat. Right before you start to iron your hair you should put in some BioSilk moisturizer. Not only will it make your hair smell really nice, but it will also make it smooth and shiny.



Next, use a clip or a hair tie to put up your hair so that it is out of the way and you get the most efficient curl. One section at a time (which would be a strand of hair about a dime diameter), start the iron as close to the root as you can get without burning your scalp. This is not an easy technique to get down at first, but the more you do it the better you will get at it. Be prepared, however, to burn yourself a couple times. It happens to everyone, even the veterans.



You may have to go over each strand a few times to get it as flat and frizz-free as you would like. Once it is the way you want it go over the strand one last time, but this time, when you get about half way down it start to turn the iron in a circle. You want to make sure that the hair remains in the iron; otherwise you will get crinkles in your hair. Keep turning the iron 360掳 until you reach the end of the strand. It may sound as if the turning motion will get the hair all caught up in the iron, but believe me it works.



Continue to do one strand at a time, and when you are all finished add some hair spray to the ends and go out looking hot!

The hair has to go through the two metal peices, and then be wrapped around the outside. you have to do it in one quick glidding motion otherwise some parts will be more curly than others. Chi straighten are meant to straighten hair. You can flip the ends, but that's about it. I'd invest in a curling iron.

That picture really doesn't show the width of your straightener well so I'm going to assume it's a 2 inch straightener. You should still be able to curl your hair but it would be much easier with a 1 inch straightener. If your hair is short you most likely will not be able to achieve any curls but perhaps waves. However, if you have medium to long length hair then you'll be able to get waves/curls. Just play around with your straightener.Is my straightener to wide to curl my hair?
It's really hard to tell based on the internet picture. I have a straightener that is about one inch wide, but it is curved on the edges so that I can wrap my hair around it and get it to curl under/out/or whatever.



I simply just wash, blow dry with some light mousse in my hair, and then begin curling in sections.

it actualy wont work with most straighteners. You have to have this special straightener that does both, idk its werid. If you try with yours you prob will just get a bunch of kinks.
Curling your hair with a flat iron is actually quite simple.

It took me a while to get it too but it's really all about technique.



If you have thick hair, section it into layers (it'll make it easier to work with)

Then get about a five inch section of hair and LOOSELY wrap it around the flat iron starting about midway through the section.

Continue this until you're hair looks naturally wavy/soft.

get a 1inch squared peice of hair

clasp your straiteners that section of hair

twist it at half a circle and begin to pull down

do that through all your hair

add some hairspray to keep it in place

Press the flat iron onto your hair, and as you slowly slide it away from the scalp, twist the flat iron so your hair wraps around the outside of the iron. You only need to twist it once, then keep sliding the flat iron down your hair. When you get to the end, a nice little curl springs up!



To get the curls to stay, I would start by blowdrying your hair with a mouse or light gel, so your hair will hold the curls. Then finish by spraying the curls with some hair spray!

To add volume the best way is when drying hair, to tip your head upside down, so im not sure how you would go about doing this to your fiancee, so just aim the hairdryer upwards.

To curl with the straighteners, part the hair, and get one small section (well as big as she wants the curl). put the straighteners at the top of the hair as if you are about to straighten the hair but then turn the straighteners 180 degrees and pull down, th slower you do this, the tighter the curl will be. Once the curl is complete you may need to just fiddle with it a little bit to get it right and the spray it with hair spray. its easy to do but takes a little practise so dont expect to get it right first time. there are plenty step by step tutorials on you tube as well, just search curling with straighteners.

There's stuff you can buy to put in your hair before straightening/curling. Its called heat protecting serum. I have Fructis Garnier antifrizz/heat protection that work really well. =)
first do a straightening...that will make the curls stay in longer i suggest a flat iron or straightening shampoo/conditioner



then take the straightener and clamp it on the ends of the piece of hair you want to curl then twirl it up as if you were using a hair curler keep it there for a minute for tight bouncy curls 30 seconds for wavy curls and 15 seconds for loose waves do this on a piece of hair that is no more than two inches when placed in the hair straightener



u can use citrashine oil or heat activated sprays or gels that will protect your hair in it will go back to its natural state if you use it :D

follow these steps







# Start off by dividing your hair, this can be done by parting your hair into two parts straight down the middle. For each side, roll your hair into a bun and hold it up with a clip. You also should repeat the last step for the other part of your hair.

use really good hair care products like Paul Mitchell. Maybe a holding compound. When you dry your hair, take a brush and move angling up and out a lot. That way you already have some volume you want and can work. When you are finished drying your hair, then you will be able to style it manualy instead of it styling itself automatically. Can't go wrong. So you curl it and add some wonderful spray. Maybe toss in some moose too while you dry it! Hope that helped. It's good to brush your hair alot... keeps it pretty.
it depends on the quality of the straightener too. you should take small sections, starting near your roots and slowly work down while twisting/twirling the flat iron. if this doesn't make since you can look up videos on youtube.
Instead of doing that, why not use some rollers or even curl with your fingers? (You wrap a strand around your finger and then hold for a minute and then release)

try the maxiglide, they have it on qvc sometimes. If you don't know how to use a curling iron ask a close girl friend or have you mom teach you because it's too hard to explain it by just words alone.

CHI works the best for straightening ur hair and curl ur hair too. its a lil expensive but it really work. My mom have like black ppl hair...and it still work so it should work for u.



CHI can curl ur hair a lot bettter than the curling iron...just twist the straightner as u go down...remember to keep twisting until u reach the the end of ur hair or else it would look really weird.
Those really dont work unless you have hair that is thin and maybe wavy.

I suggest a GHD or Chi.

First, you have a great ceramic iron. CHI is among the best. It's also good that you are moisturizing as you attempt this because it is damaging to your anytime you apply heat (although ceramic is supposedly better)



The best way to start is to part a small portion of your hair. If you try too large a size it won't turn out right. The main thing is to keep the same amount of pressure on the iron through the length of your hair or you'll end up with crimps (lines) on the portion that you pressed harder on. This part is the hardest part of curling with a flat iron. You naturally tend to press harder as you move down the hair shaft.



So anyway...after you have the hair parted into a small section, start at the base of the hair shaft (near your scalp) with the flat iron closed and slide downward to the ends of the hair. Depending on how tight you want your curls, you start bending the iron (just like with a curling iron) inward or outward (again, depending on which direction you want your curls to go). The more your bend or curl the iron will determine how tight the curls are. It will take a little practice keeping the iron at the same pressure through the shaft and while curling but the thing is...practicing will get you used to doing it. If you mess it up, you can always just run the iron through your hair again without trying to curl to straighten it out again...and start over.

I do my hair like this ALL the time. I've got pin straight hair and this method works amazingly. However, you must take into account that I don't have extensions. I've never had them before so I'm really not sure what you can and can't do with them that you can do with your own hair. Still, you can take a look at what I usually do and adapt accordingly to make it work for your extensions.



Start out by washing your hair with some sort of curl enhancing shampoo and/or conditioner. This will encourage it to curl and give it a little bit of texture.



Spray your hair all over with some sort of heat protecting spray (Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray is my favorite- inexpensive and works well). Although it's not your own hair, you still want to take good care of it!!



Blow dry your entire head with a diffuser, scrunching to encourage curls and waves.



Once your hair is at least 90% dry, section it off. Separate the hair of the bottom two inches of your scalp at the nape of your neck from the rest of your hair.



Take the top part of your hair and clip it up with a butterfly clip (if you have thick hair you might need more than one).



Take your heat spray one more time and spray this lower section (about 6-8 inches from your head, so you don't dampen it).



Using a 1 inch flat iron (my preference is the 1 inch CHI styling iron- which incidentally is yours, too!), take a strand from this section and clamp it at a 45 degree angle about 2 inches away from your scalp.



As you go down the length of the strand, you want your hair to be sort of bending against the iron; twist the iron so that your hair is kind of wrapping around it. Think: curling ribbon with scissors. (Visit this link for a quick visual demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLMpNT0wI鈥?/a> ).



Continue to do this until you have completed the lower section.



Take down another 2 inch horizontal section just above this bottom one from the butterfly clip.

When your head is done, gently separate the curls a bit and then finish off with some moderate hold aerosol hair spray.

Are you using the same amount of heat? Otherwise, you may want to try increasing the heat, and rotate the straightener at a higher angle, closer to your ear, and start there, and push down at the same time.
Make the transition from rotating the iron more smooth so you get softer curls than getting bends in your curls. Don't stay on one section of your hair too long or it will create a bend. And remember practice makes perfect ^-^
I understand your frustration. Using the right products in your hair is key. Make sure you use a good spritzer/ setting lotion in your hair so that it can help hold the curl. The lack of products is probably what the problem is. Also you don't want to use products that are too heavy or you run the risk of weighing your curls down. So its like a catch 22.



If you have product build up on your hair then it can also weigh them down thus giving you weak limp curls. Make sure you wash any residue out, use the right curl spritzer, bumble and bumble holding spray and bumble and bumble does it all spray work wonders. Although they are a bit pricey. Got2B makes a good one as well at a better price.



I curl my hair every morning with a curling iron but its the same thing as a straightener if my hair has too much build up or too little they look limp and lifeless. Good Luck!
maybe you need a curl activator first. you can get one at drugstores. and maybe you're not holding the straightener on your hair long enough.

When you are running the iron through your hair turn the iron so that the hair wraps around it a little like if you had it around a curling iron. Its kind of weird at first but it will give a pretty spiral once you get the hang of it. Remember to wrap it the direction you want the curl to flow in. Like wrapping it backwards so it flows back or forward so the curls go toward your face. Be careful to do it at a good speed and not too slow so you don't get any lines or marks.

yes you CAN curl your hair with a flat iron. you need it to be SUPER hot (chi works best for me). take you hair in small strands put the iron over the top part of your hair as close to the scalp as possible. Tightly flip the iron up so it makes the hair curve toward the ceiling and pull hard straight down, hair stull flipped up toward the ceiling. The curls you will get will be tight and wild and messy, but I LOVE that look especially if I'm out with friends or at a party. It works better for short hair.l Don't spray a ton of hairspray that is heavy, it will weight it down. A good thing to get if you want the curls to last is a type of curl hold that you would usually cook onto your hair with a curling iron. It's light and looks more natural.

How to curl hair with a Cortex straightener? And how to separate your hair to do so.?

I bought me a red Cortex Straightener from the mall last year and only thing I know what to do with my hair is to Straighten it.



This straightener is suppose to do curls, flips, and of course straighten.

My friends mom curls her daughters hair amazingly.

And she has showed me before but I don't really remember know how to do it.



My MAIN problem is I have no idea how to separate my hair, it is thick and is semi - long.

buy a curling iron
you should straighten your hair first and then while using the straightener on your already straight hair twist the iron while moving it down your hair.
When you put the iron on the hair strand, simply roll the iron and let the hair wind thru it. Practice first on a low heat setting and please use a heat styling product to protect the hair.

It really depends what straightener you have, if you have a big chunky rectangle-ish one, it's close to impossible. But if you have a longer more roundish one, it's all in the wrist. You will have to practice at it, i sure did as it is a bit harder to do with a straightener, but it is doable.

Start at the root and twist your wrist and straightener so the hair is raping around, pull down with your hair, not out away. Like I said it takes loads of practice to get it right and to get pretty curls every time. Just keep trying!

All you do is you Hold the section of your hair your trying to curl, and start off like youre starightining it. When You get to the VERY end of your hair hold the straightener on it and slowly keep turning your straightener towards your head.





If you do this correctly you should see your hair wrapped around the iron. Hold it for about 10 seconds. then un roll your hair off the straightener and you should have a cute curl(:

Do you have to have a small hair straightener to curl you hair with it?

I've watched a video on youtube on how to curl your hair with a straightening iron but, I tried it with mine and it didn't work.. i have a bigger iron too.



most of the time it just makes bigger curls, but it might not be hot enough.



your hair could be too short too for it to wrap around at least once.

Just get a curling iron.
The person on youtube probably had one of those special thingamabobbery straightener/curler thing. Get one if that's your problem. Hope I helped-

i curl minee almost everyday with a 1'; straightner.
