How can i curl my short hair with a straightener?

My hair is about shoulder length now and i know how to curl hair with a straightener but the curls are always too tight and my hair just gets way too much volume and looks awful. What i'm asking is, how can i make the curls looser and make my hair look alot less like an afro lol

there are these products with heat guard in them. i use chi straight guard. it is on the expensive side but it is highly worth it. also some straighters have combs in it to comb while straightening.. so it leaves in in a thin layer and then the straightener goes over it. hope this helped ( i didnt really knoe how to eplain the straightner)
go onto the ghd website (type into google) and it shows videos of how to curl hair, beach style curls, waves or tight curls its really good

just flip the iron up (the other direction) and go down

if it is too tight, lightly and quickly go back over it (normally) with your straightener



or you can buy a wider one and do the top part
